The Southwest Lending Closet – An amazing resource who lends Durable Medical Equipment at NO COST!
Too often our clients have told us how they had to purchase some piece of medical equipment for short-term rehabilitation; when they are ‘right as rain’ again, the equipment gathers dust out in the garage. Well, with Southwest Lending Closet, that may be a thing of the past for some people.
Southwest Lending Closet is a non-profit 501 (c)(3) corporation and an all-volunteer organization that lends durable medical equipment at no charge for up to 90 days with a valid driver’s license or state-issued photo ID with a current address. They do not pick up or deliver and they do not reserve items. They do not turn anyone away and you do not need a prescription to borrow the equipment. A good portion of their equipment was donated to them by people who found they no longer had a need for the items.
The number of clients served has grown significantly over the years due to word-of-mouth, referrals from doctors, therapists, and hospitals in the Southwest Valley, and from their active participation in community health and resource fairs.
Items available to lend include:
•Bath transfer benches, tub rails, and shower chairs or stools
•Bed rails, transfer boards, and hospital bedside tables
•Crutches, canes, walkers, wheelchairs, and knee scooters(children to adult)
•Commodes, commode rails, and elevated toilet seats
•Gait belts, shoehorns, and sock-aides
Get Involved…
The Southwest Lending Closet is completely staffed by dedicated volunteers. They welcome all who desire to help others. You will meet interesting people and provide a much-needed service to your Arizona neighbors. Volunteers are requested to contribute at least one three-hour shift per month to ensure the Closet can be open to those who need our services. If this interests you, give them a call!
